A mobile CCTV trailer has been stationed at a popular South Perth riverside carpark in an attempt to deter hoons and criminal activity.

Deployed in partnership with Kensington police, the trailer has been posted to Millers Pool carpark, as well as Sandon Park in Salter Point, Kwel Park playground in Karawara and the Scented Gardeners near the South Perth foreshore.

Just last month, the council closed the Millers Pool carpark — an isolated area under the Narrows Bridge — and the thoroughfare leading to the Mill Point boat ramp jet ski area between 9pm and 5am, after a string of hooning incidents.

Cameras and lighting were also added to the Millers Pool carpark to “monitor and deter antisocial behaviour”.

“Eyes on the Street” stickers have also been installed to footpaths throughout the city, encouraging locals to report suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers WA via the sticker’s QR code.

“The city’s investment in the mobile CCTV trailer underscores our commitment to promoting a safe and secure community for all residents,” South Perth mayor Greg Milner said.

“By strategically deploying surveillance resources in collaboration with local police, we aim to deter criminal behaviour and foster a greater sense of security within our city.”
