The early life of AC/DC frontman Bon Scott is in line to make it to the silver screen, with homegrown talent and Netflix star Lee Tiger Halley entrusted to play the lead role.

The Kid from Harvest Road is a collaboration between Halo Films and Protocol Pictures that could start production next year.

The WA-based film will depict the life of a young Bon Scott growing up in Fremantle in 1963 and track his experience as a “troubled youth” who later became a household music name.

Scott was only 33 years old when he died in 1980 as AC/DC was on the brink of worldwide stardom. His iconic tattoos, powerful vocals and denim carved him into a music legend — but the WA film will precede his iconic music career.

The Kid from Harvest Road is set to be produced by Tim Duffy and backed by executive producers Ian Hale and Nicko Mezzino. It promises to unveil “untold chapters” of the musician’s life, with “no objection” from his estate.

Hale, who is Halo Films’ managing director, said he was thrilled to bring the frontman’s formidable early years to life.

“His story is one of resilience, passion and the relentless pursuit of his dreams,” he said.

“Through this film, we aim to honour his legacy and inspire audiences with the transformative power of music and determination.”

Producers chose John Curtin graduate Lee Tiger Halley for the role, citing a “magnetism” that mirrored Scott.

The 18-year-old recently starred in his breakout role as Gus Bell in the TV adaptation of Trent Dalton’s 2018 novel Boy Swallows Universe.

Writer Stephen Belowsky — who is joined by co-writer and director David Vincent Smith — described The Kid from Harvest Road as a love letter to Fremantle.

“I was truly inspired by his charismatic character, but what interested me most was his early life, not the caricature we all know on stage,” he said.

“The teen who walked the streets of Fremantle ... this is a love letter to Fremantle and Bon reimagined through the eyes of the author.”
