Acacia’s severe eczema and rubber anaphylaxis prevents her from taking part in sport ” swimming is the only exercise she can do.
With help from staff at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, she has been enjoying swimming lessons in the swim school since 2010.
Acacia’s family made inquiries with centre staff to see if the centre was suitable for her needs.
With a few minor adjustments and a pre-swim regime, Acacia is having fun in the water with her peers.
Before she goes in the water, Acacia uses a special cream, which lasts about 40 minutes and prevents her skin from drying out from the chlorine.
Due to Acacia’s severe reaction to rubber, her grandmother made a special material cover for her pool noodle and bought a cover for her kickboard.
The centre is encouraging people to ask and see if staff members can cater to individual needs. Call 9550 3600.
