Light rail proposal for Mandurah to get support from council

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

A REPORT to be presented to the City of Mandurah on Tuesday proposes a light rail system for Mandurah’s central business district.

The council will recommend support for development of a high frequency street-based system in the city centre in a staged approach that would ultimately be extended to Peel Health Campus, Halls Head town centre, Halls Head beach and along Mandurah Terrace, north of Peel Street.

It also recommends support for development of a rapid bus transport system along Mandurah Road between Mandurah’s northern suburbs and Mandurah train station and from the station via Old Coast Road to the southern suburbs.

Also included in the report are improvements to the passenger rail service, with an extension to Ravenswood and ultimately Pinjarra, more carparking at the train station and an additional station to the north of Mandurah, taking into account the State Government’s commitment to a station at Karnup.
