THE statistics are in and they reveal that Mandurah residents are online shopping addicts.

AusPost reported that for the second year in a row Mandurah is one of the top 10 postcodes in Australia for online sales – for the second year in a row.

“Mandurah shoppers are building a new habit of online shopping,” he said.

“Once this habit is ingrained, it’s going to be very difficult if not impossible to change them back and once the habit is ingrained, the spend pattern will move beyond discretionary spending items to all shopping segments.

“All Mandurah bricks and mortar retailers need to lift their performance, it’s a battle for survival.”

Mandurah is number one in Australia for deliveries of specialty food and liquor with 45 per cent of purchases coming from Halls Head, Meadow Springs and Greenfields.

The City ranks third for health and beauty deliveries, sixth for books, music, software and magazines, tenth for department store products and tenth for hobbies and recreational goods.

Mr Stafford said Mandurah has high investment in buildings.

“What happens when you have a high level of investment in new buildings?” he said.

“People and businesses will spend and in Mandurah, people are going online to do this.

“Online statistics tell us that people are buying wants not needs online.

“This is all discretionary spend which is strongly motivated by two big factors – range of products available and convenience of shopping.”

Mr Stafford said it was strange that Mandurah did not rank in the top 10 for home wares and appliance deliveries.
