ADVENTURESCAPE in South Yunderup has been recognised for its design excellence at the annual Australian Institute of Landscape Architects WA Awards.

Adventurescape won the Play Spaces category, with judges saying it “exhibits strong attention to detail as it successfully embraces the character of the area”.

The $3.5 million adventure playground, which opened last year, has been designed with a farm theme and features a 35m flying fox, a giant pig, a rope climbing challenge, swings, a balance beam, fence maze, old farm tractors and a custom designed 8.5m high windmill climbing frame and slipper slide, as well as climb-on timber and fibreglass animal sculptures.

The park occupies more than 4ha and features barbecue facilities, a large lakeside pavilion, picnic shelters and toilets, and overlooks an existing lake.

Satterley chief executive Nigel Satterley said Adventurescape was a destination where families could spend the entire day.

He said it was the perfect choice for family celebrations, playgroups and after school get-togethers.

“Every time you arrive at Adventurescape it is always packed with children and families enjoying themselves; it’s wonderful to see,” Mr Satterley said.

“It really has become the heart of the community.”
