The Mustangs led by 22 points at the last break but were overrun in the final term to suffer a 9.18 (72) to 10.9 (69) loss.

Alex Connor, Corey Eades and Alex Winwood starred for the Mustangs with valiant efforts all day.

The Mustangs dominated early and maintained the edge throughout the first half to lead at the long break by 10 points.

A strong third term by the Mustangs appeared to propel them to the flag but Baldivis lifted when it mattered most.

Baldivis dominated the final quarter, with 12 scoring shots to two, to win the gruelling contest by three points.

While disappointing to stumble at the final hurdle, the Mustangs’ efforts during the finals series were exceptional.

They qualified for the grand final with a thumping 53-point win over Rockingham in the preliminary final.

The Mustangs’ efforts in the finals should result in a number of emerging young players competing for selection in the senior team next season.
