A NUMBER of Melville councillors have been left shocked after receiving obscene hand delivered letters following WA Labor’s election win on Saturday.

The Melville Times understands councillors Patricia Phelan, Cameron Schuster, Duncan Macphail and Nicole Foxton all received identical typed letters that read: “Suck my c–k you Liberal maggot scum. Ha ha. F–king losers.”

Cr Phelan said the letter “scared the daylights” out of her when she found it in her letterbox on Monday morning.

“I felt really sick; I didn’t know at that stage that other councillors had also got one and I was worried because this person obviously knows who I am and where I live,” she said.

“It was pretty obscene. I consider myself broadminded but I certainly don’t use that kind of language.”

Cr Phelan, who is not a member of the Liberal Party, believes the letters were at least partly motivated by the City of Melville’s vocal and long-running support for Roe 8 and the Perth Freight Link, key planks of the ousted Barnett Government’s election campaign.

Both Cr Phelan and Cr Schuster have appeared in videos supporting the Perth Freight Link posted on the City of Melville’s Facebook page.

Melville Deputy Mayor Rebecca Aubrey contested the seat of Willagee for the Liberals but said she had not received one of the letters, likely because she had not updated her publically available address after renting out her home.

“My tenants might be in for a bit of a shock though,” she said.

Cr Aubrey said Liberal candidate for Midland Daniel Parasiliti, who is a City of Melville resident, also received one of the letters.
