MELVILLE duo Emma Biss and Mathilda Carmichael will be part of the Perth Scorchers squad that begins the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) this weekend.

The Scorchers, who made the semi-finals last season, travel to Sydney for matches against the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday and Sunday to commence the second edition of the WBBL.

The squad, coached by ex-Australia batswoman Lisa Keightley, includes a mix of local and international players, including England internationals Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole and New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates.

Among the locals are the Melville duo, who play their club cricket at Tompkins Park in Alfred Cove.

Biss is a 26-year-old right-arm medium fast bowler who is a handy lower-order batswoman given her ability to hit boundaries.

Carmichael (22) is new to the Scorchers set-up, having previously focused solely on hockey, representing the Hockeyroos as recently as last month in Melbourne.
