Cricket: Melville faces toughest test against Perth in round 13

RESURGENT Melville faces its toughest test since Christmas when it takes on Perth Cricket Club in Premier Cricket round 13 beginning Saturday at Tompkins Park.

Undefeated in January, the Storm have so far dispatched a procession of opponents sitting outside the competition’s top 10.

Third on the ladder Perth is an entirely different proposition and Melville will need to build on its outstanding early year form to consolidate its position in the top five.

Outside of Luke Towers, Melville’s top order has failed to fire regularly and the likes of Angus Robson and Tom Scollay are well overdue for a big score.

Drew Porter and Ryan Duffield have been instrumental with the bat during the Storm’s winning streak but their purple patch cannot last forever.

Duffield, brother Liam, Blake Reed and Tom Kerr-Sheppard have all enjoyed success with the ball creating a potent attack that has not conceded more than 216 runs in an innings since the start of the year.

They will look to dismiss Perth’s Jacob Snadden and Dain Moreton cheaply in round 13, both men having already struck more than 400 runs this season.

The Demons real strength lies with the ball and Dean Nelson, Josh Nicholas, Liam Guthrie and Jacob Van Galen have already combined for 75 scalps so far this season.
