ON Saturday, Ryan Scott (AKA Scotty “The Big Rig” Ryan) will climb into a steel cage to take on nemesis and defending champion Gavin McGavin in the headline bout of Explosive Professional Wrestling’s (EPW) Hell or Highwater event.

“I didn’t get in but they said they loved my attitude and told me to come back when I was a bit older.”

Three years later – and considerably taller, heavier and stronger – Scott returned to EPW and made his wrestling debut in October 2011.

Since then he has fought in more than 100 matches, many of them against nemesis McGavin.

“We’ve got a long history of fighting each other in the ring and we’re coming off a series of big matches where he’s used some dirty tactics to hold onto the championship belt,” Scott said.

“This is the first time either of us is fighting in a cage match and they’re difficult to prepare for because the cage is completely unforgiving.

“You’re locked in together, there’s nowhere to hide and the match only ends when the winner escapes the cage, submits or pins their opponent.”

Scott said Saturday’s Hell or Highwater event promised a night of exhilarating but family-friendly entertainment and encouraged anybody interested in wrestling to attend.

He also said EPW was always on the lookout for new wrestlers who think they have what it takes to get into the ring.

“The EPW School of Professional Wrestling in Malaga is open Monday to Friday and we have classes for beginners all the way through to the most advanced wrestlers,” he said.

“New candidates are welcome and we also host occasional open tryouts that are a little less gruelling than back when I was a teenager.”

EPW Hell or Highwater takes place from 6.30pm at the Cyril Jackson Recreational Centre in Bassendean.
