Rugby union: Palmyra keeps racking up the wins, downs Joondalup 34-17

IN its first defence of the RugbyWA Cup on Saturday, Palmyra clicked straight into gear on the way to a 34-17 win over Joondalup.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and field position to put Joondalup under pressure from the outset.

Brothers eventually conceded a penalty for offside, with Pally fly half Sam Jurisich converting to take an early lead.

Palmyra secured the ball from the restart and spun it out wide to centre Tutere Waenga who broke through the Joondalup defence from inside his own half and then ran 60m to score a superb solo try.

Jurisich converted, taking Pally out to a 10-0 lead before Joondalup managed a try through number eight Mannasseh Gudgeon after some solid work from the forwards.

Further first half tries to Palmyra centre Ra Davis and fullback Mani Eden helped the home side build a 29-7 half-time lead.

Palmyra made a number of changes at the half and Brothers came out firing, soon rewarded for their hard work with a try to centre Sheldon Tarawa.

Jurisich replied with a try of his own before Brothers outside centre James Wepener dotted down for a a late consolation.
