MELVILLE City slipped to their third loss in a row following a 4-1 defeat to Olympic Kingsway at Kingsway Sports Club.

The visitors’ topsy-turvy season continued as they lost further ground on the top four in the clash with their fellow promotion hopefuls.

After a tight opening half hour, the hosts took the lead when Jake Cherrie rifled home Mella Loding’s cutback, leaving Daniel Agudelo with no chance.

Loding almost made it 2-0 when he cut in and unleashed a powerful shot which cannoned back off the bar, but they didn’t have to wait long, as 10 fired a long-range effort past Agudelo.

Melville had it all to do in the second half and missed a golden opportunity to climb back into the game when Grant Mowatt’s shot was parried into Dean Thurston’s path, but he couldn’t keep his close-range shot under the bar.

They were punished minutes later, when Loding cut through the defence and although the on-rushing Agudelo made a superb one-on-one stop, Josh Pereira’s curled home a superb long-range effort with the ‘keepr stranded.

Soon after, Cherrie grabbed his second when he dribbled past two Melville defenders and clamly slotted home.

Christian Long grabbed a consolation for City with a fine solo effort, but Melville were left to dwell on their disappointing effort.
