Despite missing a host of their Nation Water Polo League (NWPL) stars, the Marlins proved too good for North Coast to improve to a perfect 9-0 record for the 2016-17 season.

It was a tight contest at quarter-time with Melville leading just 5-4, but the Marlins scored four goals to nil in the second period, two to one in the third and with honours even in the fourth, they won 13-7.

Erin Redbond scored four goals for the Marlins, Pia Rodgers three, Sarah Leavy three and Brooke Pensini two.

Melville heads to Beatty Park on Saturday to take on a Dolphins team coming off its first win of the season after beating Triton 8-7.

Fremantle’s NWPL teams will return to Bicton Pool this week to host interstate visitors for the first time in the campaign.

Both the Marlins women and Mariners men take on the Balmain Tigers at Bicton Pool this Friday night and Sunday morning in what should be terrific contests.
