FORMER long-time councillor and mayor Charlie Zannino has announced he will run in next month’s City of Swan election in the Swan Valley/Gidgegannup ward.
Mr Zannino served as a councillor for 24 years and was the mayor and shire president for 16 years, but failed to be re-elected in 2015.
He said he decided to seek a return to council to help better represent people in the Swan Valley/Gidgegannup ward.

READ NOW“I’ve had numerous community groups and individuals who have told me they want me back on council,” he said.
“I think I’m still young enough and I have the experience and contacts at a local, State and Federal level to make a positive contribution.
“Spending two years away from council gave me the opportunity to have a fresh set of eyes looking from the outside in and seeing what could be done better or differently.”
Mr Zannino did not rule out the possibility of running for mayor again.
“I’m concentrating on getting elected to council; if I was lucky enough to get elected I would certainly consider running for mayor,” he said.
Former Liberal MP Frank Alban has also announced he will run in the seat of Pearce after he lost the State seat of Swan Hills to Labor’s Jessica Shaw in March.
Shalom House chief executive Peter Lyndon-James has announced he will run in Altone Ward after long-running issues with the City.
Local Government Elections will be held on October 21, nominations for the elections close on Thursday at 4pm.
