The new initiative seeks to find lifelong homes for all homeless pets in Australia.

Every year approximately 230,000 healthy pets remain unclaimed in Australia’s pounds and shelters and face an uncertain future.

More than 100,000 pets are euthanized every year.

PetRescue Co-founder Vicki Day said pets end up in rescue situations through no fault of their own.

“If just one in five pet seekers chose to adopt a pet instead of buying one we can end pet homelessness across Australia,” Ms Day said.

“Our goal is to turn heartbreak into hope for furry orphans,” she said.

“Many times it is a change in circumstances for owners who love their pets which sees them being re-homed or left in shelters.

“They still make great pets as they do not have behavioural issues associated with cruelty.

“They have been loved and respond to loving new homes well,” she said.
