Main Roads WA shut down traffic in both directions in the aftermath of the crash, however the crash was cleared within an hour.

A police spokesman confirmed there had been a chase in the area, but would not be drawn on whether it was related to the assault of an off-duty police officer this morning.

He said one person was in custody following the crash.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said a woman in her 70s, who they believed was a passenger in the stolen vehicle, had been transported to St John of God Midland.

A post on the WA Revenue Raiser’s Facebook page claimed police officers involved in the crash were chasing a white ute.

Another post on the page claimed the ute had been towed from the scene.
