WATTLE Grove hurdler Antoine Vargiolu (14) is training at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, hoping for a record-breaking showing when the season starts this month.

It follows an impressive showing at the Malaysian Athletics Championships where Vargiolu won silver in the 100m hurdles final. He was also part of the 4x100m silver medal and 4x400m bronze medal winning WA relay teams at the international championships.

Earlier this year Vargiolu won gold at the Perth State Track Championships in the 90m and 200m hurdle events. He holds the Australian 80m hurdles record as well as state records and national titles for sprints and hurdles.

Vargiolu, a member of the Southern Districts Little Athletics Centre, said he was training four days a week ahead of the new season.
