Local residents upset at City of Rockingham’s poor quality dog poo bag

Rachel FennerSound Telegraph

A dogfight has erupted in the City of Rockingham over poo bags.

Dog owners would be familiar with the yellow bags provided by the council to collect their dog’s doo-doo.

However, canine-loving locals were outraged after the yellow bags disappeared in favour of “flimsy” green bags.

One woman reported that her finger had poked through the bag while trying to collect her pet’s business while others reported that they stuck together when wet.

The complaints got so bad that the City of Rockingham posted on social media telling residents to double bag before picking up the mess.

“We’re using the green bags until we can source more of the yellow ones for our parks and beaches but be warned: the green bags aren’t as strong as the yellow bags so you may need to double bag your dog’s (poo) to prevent any cracks appearing,” the city wrote online.

“Thanks for remembering to pick up after your dog.”

“The green bags we get now are hopeless. Hard to get off the roll, difficult to open and flimsy. They break easy which is not fun when you are trying to pick up after your dog and you poke a hole with your finger Yuck! Lets go back to the yellow ones please (sic),” one woman wrote about the bags.

“This is one of the most helpful posts I’ve read today. I’m sick of my finger going through or the bags ripping as I take them,” another added.

Supply chain issues were revealed to be the reason for the change.

“The city received some complaints about the green bags being smaller than the yellow bags, and being provided on a roll instead of being packed flat in a box,” Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin confirmed.

“The issue is related to difficulties in sea freight logistics as our supplier manufactures the bags overseas.”
