Alkimos Fresh IGA to open in November

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

THE first Independent Grocers of Australia (IGA) supermarket in Alkimos is due to open its doors this month.

Construction has finished on the 1000sq m Alkimos Fresh IGA on the corner of Graceful Boulevard and Turnstone Street inside the Alkimos Gateway retail precinct.

Co-owner Inderjit Singh said he and business partner Amu Shah were excited to be open a store they hoped would “become a cornerstone” of the community, providing IGA’s grocery products and independent brands.

“As locals we know what the community is after – fresh, healthy produce and ready-to-go meal options,” the Hillarys resident said.

Mr Singh said establishing a retail experience that catered to the coastal lifestyle was something the team was keen to achieve.

“Whether it is a picnic at the beach or a barbecue at the neighbour’s house, we have the best available to our customers,” he said.

“Our focus is on convenience and quality.”

Mr Singh said in WA, small business owners operated independently to provide product ranges that suited local demographics.

The store’s construction created about 200 jobs for tradespeople and when it opens the supermarket will create another 40 jobs.

“We have employed some amazing staff but we are always looking for enthusiastic, local people keen to work with us,” Mr Singh said.

“A staff recruitment day is planned for Alkimos community members to apply for positions.”

The centre will have almost 150 parking bays.

Coles and Woolworths also received planning approval to build supermarkets in Alkimos earlier this year.
