Part of Yanchep Beach Rd speed limit to drop to 60km/h

THE speed limit on part of Yanchep Beach Road will drop from 80km/h to 60km/h within the next month.

Main Roads WA (MRWA) spokesman Dean Roberts said MRWA had reviewed the speed zone and determined that the 60km/h zone will be extended from Two Rocks Road to 200m east of Parkland Drive, where there is existing residential development.

“The standard timeframe for signage installation is approximately four weeks, allowing sufficient time for the speed zone change to be advertised,” he said.

Earlier this year, Yanchep Police Sergeant Chris Wride called for a speed limit reduction on the road east of the 60km/h zone near the light industrial area.

Speaking at the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association (TRYRA) meeting in January, Sgt Wride said the limit was still 80km/h through three roundabouts farther east.

City of Wanneroo councillor Linda Aitken raised the issue with City staff, who said MRWA was responsible for changing speed limits and installing speed limit signs.

At the TRYRA meeting in February, Cr Aitken said the City would lodge the request with MRWA, which has since done desktop and onsite reviews of that section of road.
