Quinns Rocks in need of Men’s Shed

Merriwa resident Jim Douglas travels to Joondalup Men’s Shed in Padbury and believes there is a need for a venue locally.

“There’s a lot of pensioners who can’t do the journey,” he said. “We haven’t got one around the Quinns area.”

Mr Douglas is part of the committee aiming to establish the Quinns Rocks Men’s Shed and is liaising with the City of Wanneroo to find a venue.

He said the shed would be non-profit, make items for charities and provide a place for men to socialise and learn new skills.

“You get to know people, not sit at home twiddling your thumbs like a lot of people are, the priority is social,” he said.

Eventually he also hoped to open a women’s shed.

The group is hosting a meeting at Quinns Rocks Sports Club on Sunday from 2pm for people to find out more. Mr Douglas encouraged men and women to attend to show their support for the shed.
