Hit by syringe while gardening

Gerry Coleman, BassendeanNorth Coast Times

BEING a professional gardener these days is becoming more and more dangerous.

Pruning shrubs and trees, you get attacked by wasps and bees; weeding garden beds, you have to watch out for snakes, blue-tongue lizards and redbacks; but the most dangerous of all these days is slashing long grass on verges where hypodermic syringes are dumped.

I hit one the other day with my line-trimmer (whipper-snipper) which flew up and hit me on the leg.

Luckily, both syringes I found that day had caps on the needle or I could have been in for a hepatitis check.
