Photos are a scary scene of the future in Quinns Beach

ALTHOUGH 20 years late, your headline “Plans for coast change” on the Weekender’s September 1 edition was a scary harbinger of the future.

It confirms what insurance companies have been saying for years.

I hope its recommendations will be taken seriously.

Here are two photographs to demonstrate the mess we are making.

Taken in front of the Quinns Rocks blue change rooms, they show the dramatic erosion to this once pleasant beach.

The trees picture, taken in 2001 is from the south-west corner of the carpark.

Photograph two is from the same place looking south in September 2016.

About 75m of beach has been swallowed up – including that pleasant area shaded by those trees.

One wonders how long the sandbags propping up the road will last…

Sadly the north side of the ineffective little sandstone groyne looks the same.

Not much of a legacy for our children. I hope they are cleverer than we are.
