A GROUP of Manning Primary School students learnt some handy skills when they teamed up with the Manning Men’s Shed to build a bench for their school.

Not only was the project great for Year 5 boys and men alike, the bench is now used in the school as a Buddy Bench, a place for students to go if they need a friend.

The building of the bench was an ongoing project with the students and the Men’s Shed during Term 2 and was officially unveiled at a school assembly on August 10.

YouthCARE chaplain Bianca Storer said the project had been really beneficial to the students involved.

“In completing the Buddy Bench, the Year 5 boys benefited from the connection and friendship with Men’s Shed and the fulfilment of creating something that will make a difference to Manning Primary School,” she said.

“A Buddy Bench is simply a place in our playground where we can go during recess or lunchtime to help anyone feeling lonely, sad or needing to solve difficulties they are having with their friends or fellow students.”

The school is looking forward to seeing the impact the Buddy Bench will have on its student population and those who are eager to make new friends.
