AS a mum of three, Himka McPhee understands how clothes, toys and other items can build up.
The Victoria Park resident is among those people signed up for the Garage Sale Trail.
“Every time you buy something, you need to get rid of something,” she said.

READ NOW“I was interested in the community concept, that people could go door to door or drive around and get what they need.”
Mrs McPhee said the family would be selling toys, a basinet and items for newborns.
“This is a good avenue to pass things along to people who need it,” she said.
“My husband has tools and we’ve got some furniture and kitchen utensils.
“When you live in the inner city, space is precious so you can’t have too many things.”
The Garage Sale Trail will take place on October 21 and 22. Garage Sale Trail co-founder Andrew Valder said the idea began in 2010 as a way to reduce illegal dumping in Bondi.
“We wanted to engage people with the idea of holding garage sales on the same day,” he said.
“We were aiming for 30 and we got 130 so we realised we were on to something and since then it has got even bigger.
“In 2017, we have partnered with 150 councils, including 34 in WA, which makes it to the most successful state in Australia in terms of garage sales per capita,” he said.
