Opinion: Town should not be involved with same sex marriage issue

Thelma Van Oyen, LathlainSouthern Gazette

I HAVE lived in the council area of Lathlain for more than 60 years and at the age 83 years am an “early settler.”

I think it is very unfair that the Town of Victoria Park is involved with the same sex marriage issue.

I really thought that the voting was a personal decision for Australians.

I read how some members of the council had several members of the LGBTQI community to speak in favour of the motion and asked the councillors to support it.

Actually, I don’t really know what the LGBTQI stands for but I presume it means the people that are called gay.

I really think the Federal Government is behind all this nonsense – going on the voting.

I know some gay couples who are lovely people.

I think there are many gays who have lived together for decades and are happy as they are and not interested in the marriage thing.

Two guys I know last year had a commitment service and a big party to celebrate their years together.

And of course how many young couples (not gay) just live together, have children, but not marry.

It always takes just a few to promote an issue whatever it is and others just follow like sheep.

People should be able to vote whichever way their heart leads them, not to feel any influences from others.
