The 2017 U13 Australian Carnival is taking place in Perth between September 28 and October 8.

More than 500 kids were involved in Hockey WA’s U13 Junior Development program, which started last September and provided a number of opportunities for these young players to improve their skills and develop their game.

A total of 73 youngsters now continue their progress in the State Team environment, as they train and prepare for the upcoming event.

Western Australia will send two boys’ and two girls’ teams to the U13 Carnival – an event which sees hundreds of talented athletes from around the country, with an introduction to competition in a national event environment.

The event is scheduled to run alongside the 2017 Australian Hockey League in order to give these aspiring young athletes the opportunity to play side by side with their Kookaburra, Hockeyroo and other AHL heroes.

Hockey WA pathways co-ordinator Michael Cake said there had been a focus on developing a broad cohort of future stars to help grow and strengthen the game.

“Hockey WA would like to congratulate all of the young athletes selected for the 2017 U13 Australian Carnival and wish them all the best over the coming weeks,” he said.
