MORE than 100 of the State’s best junior tennis players will hit the courts in South Perth next week for a major tournament.

The South Perth Lawn Tennis Club’s Junior Open Tournament will take place from Monday, January 9 to Wednesday, January 11 with a number of medals on offer.

Tournament director Lorraine Chyne said the titles included under 10, 12, 14 and 16 for boys and girls in singles and doubles.

“It’s a Tennis Australia and Tennis West-endorsed tournament so the players can win points from competing,” she said.

“The players are all very good so it should be a lot of fun.”

Victoria Park resident Liam Paull, 13, said he took part in the tournament last year and came second in the under 14 singles section.

“It was a lot of fun and it was good to do something during the holidays – the competition was fierce though,” he said.

Como resident Audrey McGrail, 12, said she also competed in the tournament for the first time in 2016.

“It was really fun and I got to see all my friends from school, I did quite well in the tournament too – I think I finished third or fourth,” she said.
