Perth Redbacks take down Giants in SBL

In desperate search of their second win of the season, the Giants stuck with the Redbacks for the first three quarters at Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium.

But coming off its first loss of 2017, Perth pulled away in the fourth quarter with 27 points to 18 to win by eight and improve to a 6-1 record on the season.

Shawn Redhage led the way for the Redbacks finishing with 30 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

Ben Smith might have shot just 6-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-12 from downtown but had 22 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Perth.

Geordie Murray added 13 points off the bench while Joel Wagner contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Goldfields captain Jacob Holmen top-scored with 27 points, 15 rebounds and five assists with Miles Tierney contributing 14 points, JB Pillard 11 (14 rebounds, three assists, three steals, two blocks) and Luke Pike 10 (five boards).

The Redback’s women’s and men’s sides take on Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night at Belmont Oasis before both sides play the Cockburn Cougars away on Saturday.
