A NUMBER of Vic Park Squash Club players showed off their talent on the national stage to come away with impressive results.

Five club members travelled to Geelong to compete in the Australian Junior Squash Championships alongside more than 200 of Australia’s best young players from September 30 to October 8.

Matches were fiercely contested across all age groups, with club members Oscar Curtis and Greg Chan winning their age group.

The under-13 boys title was won by Oscar with a comfortable win over his opponent while Greg won the under-15 boys title.

In the under-15 competition, Abel Jin caused an upset to get into the final and although going down, he was the only player to take a game off the eventual winner.

Pascale Louka came a credible third in the under-17 girls event.

The players all represented WA for the team’s event where they came second to Queensland.

Vic Park Squash Club junior co-ordinator and coach Sue Hillier said it was the most successful tournament that players from the club had experienced.

“The success came down to the training and commitment from the players, they have been training twice a week with the state team and playing local pennants twice a week as well,” she said.

“They are all talented players and they have a great attitude towards the game.

The junior tournament caps off a good year for the club with Hillier winning the World Masters over 50 title in April and her fifth Australian over 50 title in September.
