More than 700 guests attended the parade and award show held in the Astral Room at Crown Perth to watch finalists and winners Monica Blaauw of Wembley Downs, Susan Tran of Hamersley, Charissa Schlink of Woodlands and Chanelle Gibbs of Westminster take out the awards in the range of the year, training and mentor program categories.

Gibbs said she had embraced new technology and created wearable art in her collection for her label Citizens of Arcane.

‘I explored the use of laser cutting and heat setting in cobalt blue acrylic. The underpinning garments are strong, yet understated, with a futuristic edge,’ she said

Schlink highlighted her label Birds on a Wire Fashion, inspired by all things fun and flirtatious.

Her designs combined vintage elements with a modern twist to create unique, feminine garments.

‘It was amazing to see everyone’s ideas come to life.

It’s like a journey through someone’s imagination,’ she said.

With representatives from many of Perth’s big-name fashion designers in the crowd, the parade, which saw 19 third-year advanced diploma students displayed eight garments down the catwalk, provided students with first-hand knowledge on how the demanding fashion industry operated.

The fashion parade has proved successful for the school, with a number of success stories stemming from the event including past students Erin Van Haeften , Kate Wilks, Jonte’ Pike and Ebony Harding who have gone on to create their own labels.
