KALGOORLIE will be sent into a fashion frenzy as part of Kalgoorlie Fashion Week (KALFW), organised by Model Camp Australia director Yasmin Walter.

Walter, who has been involved in the industry for more than a decade, said she had spent months nurturing her “fashion baby” and was excited to be able to announce the inaugural event and program to take place in August.

“Model Camp Australia has taken us around Australia from Kalgoorlie to Christmas Island and that’s how the idea to create Kalgoorlie Fashion Week ensued,” Walter said.

“I had been in discussions with Eshe Christie from Country Image Development Modelling Academy about the lack of fashion festivities in Kalgoorlie.

“I jokingly said, ‘let’s hold a fashion week in Kalgoorlie’ and the thought then consumed my mind so I had to at least try to make it happen; we have been planning since January.”

Walter said having had a previous relationship with the modelling academy in Kalgoorlie, it only made sense to work together and grow the event.

“Kalgoorlie-Boulder really fits into Model Camp Australia’s vision,” she said.

“We have held numerous workshops together and they were very well received.

“I’m confident that our contacts in Kalgoorlie provide scope to grow.”

The weeklong event, which forms part of the Perth Fashion Festival, will start with a street party on Hannan Street and culminate in a VIP event featuring Betty Tran at the Kalgoorlie Cup.

“On opening day we will have the street blocked off and have performances and fashion parades every hour,” she said.

“There will be food trucks and small businesses selling local made items in stalls.

“On Friday Betty Tran will headline the event prior to her showcase at Paris Fashion Week.”

The event runs until August 12 and will feature free and ticketed events.

Local models to feature at the event include Tahlia Borrett (Coogee), Hannah Bowden (Gosnells), Kaylene Bederson (Landsdale), Tamera Francis (Leederville), Alicia Tavani (Wanneroo), Olivia Patmore (Wanneroo), Alyssa Hembra (Warnbro), Nicole Hembra (Safety Bay), Edith Lee (Victoria Park), Nakita Williams (High Wycombe) and Kyanna Van Domselaar (High Wycombe).
