Newton is wanted over the death of 35-year-old Scarborough mother Rebecca Jane Gascoigne whose body was found in a car on the Mitchell Freeway on Saturday morning.

“I just appeal to Shawn; one day your daughter is going to want some answers from you. She may want an explanation, she may want to tell you she hates you, but you have to be there for that moment; it may be in 20 years time,” he said.

“You have to dad up and man up… and be there for your daughter; you have to be there.

“He has a heart, he is not a mindless animal. I’m sure he’s grieving and scared; I’m sure he didn’t wish any pain on other people’s children. It’s just fear talking.

“To front up and look to be taking responsibility does so much.”

Police believe Newton may be carrying a gun and should not be approached.

Police also attended addresses in Scarborough as part of the investigation on Saturday.

Newton is described as fair skinned, about 186cm tall, with a medium build, very short dark hair and brown eyes.

Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Bailey encouraged anyone with information about Newton’s whereabouts to come forward.

“We have received a large number of unconfirmed sightings of Newton since we appealed for public assistance on Sunday,” Sgt Bailey said.

“Despite this assistance, and the significant search and investigative efforts by officers, Newton has not yet been located.”

Anyone who knows his location should call police on 131 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
