Scarborough: redevelopment works mean no Christmas Carols this year

Kate LeaverStirling Times

THIS year will be first time in 20 years Christmas Carols at Scarborough will not run due to the $75 million redevelopment works.

Perth Legacy chief executive Robert Ratkovcic, one of the main sponsors, said the event would be “bigger and better in future” despite this year’s cancellation.

“The organisers have deemed that an event of this size with the attendance of several thousand members of the public presented a number of logistical and safety issues,” he said.

“Alternative locations such as Abbett Park in Scarborough were also considered, but ultimately the decision to cancel the event for this year was made to ensure patron safety and the successful continuation of this iconic Scarborough event.”

Mr Ratkovcic said he would like to thank the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority , City of Stirling, Scarborough Beach Association and local businesses and patrons for their continued support.
