Opinion: Traffic-calming humps needed on Whittington Ave in Carine

Speeding Motorists on Whittington Avenue Carine.

I have been trying for three years to get Stirling CC to install traffic calming measures (read: humps) in Whittington Avenue.

Many motorists use Whittington Avenue as a ‘rat run’ – turning left off Marmion avenue hoping to get onto Reid Highway more quickly.

The trouble is that many motorists turn off Marmion with the same mindset of 80kph instead of 50.

Whittington has a considerable curve and speeding motorists cant see vehicles attempting to reverse from my driveway (and we cant see them) until it is too late – thus the numerous ‘narrow escapes’ that we have, so far, survived.

The problem is unique to my driveway of all driveways in Whittington due to the very limited line of sight because of the sweeping curve.

I’ve tried every possible way to persuade the council to ‘do something’ but have been met with callous indifference.

I’m not paranoid by the way, just terribly afraid for the safety and welfare of my grandchildren – frequent visitors to my house.
