A GROUP of promising lifesavers from Trigg Island Surf Lifesaving Club will represent WA at the Australian Pool Life Saving Championships in Melbourne next week.

Lachlan Meldrum (16), Jake Smith (19), Madeline Thomson (16) and Josh Windsor (19) were among 14 athletes selected in the state team, after taking part in development sessions and the state trials in November 2016.

The annual Australian Pool Life Saving Championships will consist of an under-14s and senior (under-16s, under-19s, open and masters) competition.

Following the championships, the representatives will have the chance to earn a place in the National Pool Lifesaving team, the Aussie Barras.

WA State Coach Sarah Hamilton, who previously represented WA and Australia, said she was impressed with the quality of the athletes at the trials.

“Unfortunately not all of the athletes could be included in the team, but we’d encourage those who missed out to keep working on their skills and return next time around,” she said.

The Australian Pool Life Saving Championship will be held from January 11 to 13.
