Lisa ThomasThe Advocate

Councillor David McDonnell moved a motion that the city write to Main Roads and ask that the speed limit from a suitable safe point east of lot 3000 Gnangara Road and the existing 70km/h speed limit of Drumpellier Drive in Ellenbrook be increased and introduced as soon as |possible.

Cr McDonnell said there were plans to have negotiations in July, but he believed it needed to be brought forward. “I wanted to move the motion to start negotiations now rather than in July and hopefully have it finalised within eight to 12 weeks,” he said.

He said he personally believed 90km/h was a suitable speed limit for the area.

City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said he was pleased the motion was passed by council.

“We are taking the necessary steps to try to make this change. I believe lifting the speed limit will not only provide consistency but improve traffic flow in the area,” he said.
