The Caversham-based hosts went home with three wins under its belt including ‘best shiraz’ and ‘best dry red table wine’.

Nearby Pinelli Wines’ Family Reserve Chenin Blanc 2007 earned it the Chairman’s Trophy, as well as the ‘best Swan Valley Table wine’ and the ‘best dry white table wine’.

The awards night was sponsored by Singapore Airlines, and featured international guest judge Lim Hwee Peng from Wine Craft Singapore as a guest speaker.

Mr Hwee Peng said he was impressed with the calibre of the Swan Valley’s wines, but said it was important the region be recognised as ‘Mediterranean’ rather than ‘hot’.

“For me, there was a real taste of Europe in the wines made in the Swan Valley,” he said.

“For not emphasising ‘hot’, there is a better chance for Swan Valley wines to be appreciated in the right context.”

The Spirit of the Swan Award was presented to the Dinneen Family to honour the late Alan Dinneen, a highly respected Swan Valley wine ambassador and wine judge.
