Swan Valley Sporting Club gets early visit from Santa Claus

Montana ArdonThe Advocate

SANTA Claus was spotted at the Swan Valley Sporting Club recently, after he dropped in for the club’s Christmas celebrations.

Arriving by helicopter instead of by sleigh, the jolly man in red greeted 200 excited children who gathered around the oval to welcome him.

President Allen Notte said Christmas celebrations had been going at the club for more than 30 years, and have evolved from Santa arriving by horse and cart, to helicopter.

“The helicopter idea came seven years ago from a member who was Santa at the time, saying lets get him here by helicopter,” Mr Notte said.

“For the first few years he funded it, but then after that we’ve had generous members of the club jump on board to chip in with the cost to cover the helicopter.”

More than 500 people celebrated Christmas at the Herne Hill club last Friday.

“We started with a modest 40 kids in the club, and now it’s more than 140 kids involved,” Mr Notte said.

“It’s a great family gathering that sees everyone in the community get together and enjoy a few drinks, food and family time.

“Every one gets festive.”
