A MARANGAROO family is enjoying their recently renovated backyard.

Perth based project management company NS Projects built the custom backyard over two weekends for 12-year-old Hristijan Necovska, who has cerebral palsy.

Therapy Focus physiotherapist Shannen Stanes said the new backyard, which includes paving, fencing, a shade sail and sensory wall, would allow Hristijan to have time out of his wheelchair and the opportunity to be more involved in family life.

“The new garden has a soft surfaced area designed for floor-based play,” she said.

“Hristijan will be out of his wheelchair and playing at the same level as his younger brother.

“There will also be a ramp from the lower level of the garden to the upper level where the veggie garden is.

“The whole garden will be accessible to Hristijan and the ramp will provide a great opportunity for him to be out of his chair and get more time on his feet.”

Hristijan’s mum Biljana said Hristijan loved being outside but the size of his wheelchair and walker meant he could not access the higher part of the garden.

“We hope that with the new backyard Hristijan will be able to spend more time with us outside and have the space to safely practice walking,” she said.

NS Projects senior project manager Tracy Mackay said the team of 16 volunteers was excited to contribute to their local community on a grassroots level.

“Our exceptional team at NS projects and the generous donations from industry partners has enabled the delivery of such an incredible space for this family,” she said.

“Knowing that we have helped to improve the quality of life for Hristijan and his family by making his backyard accessible and conducive to his ongoing development is fantastic and is exactly why we do what we do.”
