Miss Maud teams up with Matilda the Musical to spread the joy of reading

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

WITH Matilda the Musical in town, Maud Edmiston is hoping to stir up a love of reading in her younger customers.

Matilda’s love of books and Ms Edmiston’s life-long taste for reading is the inspiration for a book swap set up at 10 Miss Maud cafes around Perth.

The Miss Maud-Matilda Book Swap will run until April 3 with children invited to swap a book they have enjoyed for a new one.

Penguin Random House has also come on board, offering Roald Dahl books along with the books provided by Miss Maud.

Ms Edmiston, who grew up in Sweden where the name Maud is derived from the name Matilda, said she was thrilled to join with Matilda the Musical to help encourage children to read and to shine a light on Matilda’s empowering messages and love of books.

“My own childhood and that of my children was made more exciting and adventurous, even perhaps a bit bold and mischievous, through Roald Dahl’s books,” she said.

“The books influenced the creative spirit of all my family and I am delighted to be able to foster that same love of books in children visiting Miss Maud.”

Until April 3, customers at any Miss Maud can also win tickets to Matilda the Musical with the chance to experience an on-stage welcome from the cast.

Matilda leads in bake-off

The four girls cast in the lead role of Matilda the Musical recently went head-to-head in a bake-off.

Held by Miss Maud, the four Matildas showed a different side of their artistic talents by making and decorating their own chocolate tortes, which were judged by the show’s chocolate cake lover Bruce Bogtrotter.
