Potential sites for new hospital

Lucy JarvisWanneroo Times

Health Minister Kim Hames considered Alkimos as a potential site for a future hospital at a recent Australian Medical Association breakfast.

Dr Hames said Alkimos would be on the cards to service the growing area in about 10 years, but at this stage no detailed planning had been done.

Mrs Roberts said although current hospital facilities in Joondalup Health Campus were both good and expanding, population growth in the City of Wanneroo meant there would be a need for another facility further north.

‘We have been essentially for a number of years advocating the importance of a hospital in the Yanchep area (but) the State Government makes the decision with regard to a location,’ Mrs Roberts said.

‘We would certainly welcome a facility with open arms.

‘To read that there is a likely site for a new hospital is really encouraging.

‘(However) to build a new hospital will take a number of years.’

The current local structure plan for Yanchep identifies a potential hospital site beside the proposed city centre on Yanchep Beach Road.
