TAPPING teenager Patrick Middleton has released his debut EP.

The 18-year-old DJ and WAAPA sound production student, known as Miiddy, started working on Overture during his final year at St Stephen’s School Carramar.

“I had a few songs that I was going to actually release as a small EP back then but I thought I should work more on them and release them at a later date,” he said.

“I kept producing seeing what could come up with and revisited two of the tracks that I made last year.

“I kept the core idea of the song but added more relevant and modern synths and sounds.”

Middleton received a DJ deck as a Christmas present when he was 12 and played his first show in 2014 at a under-18s event in Subiaco.

“I had spent a whole week planning my set and learning how to use the professional DJ equipment,” he said.

“There was barely anyone there but I was so happy and in the moment I just knew this is what I want to do.”

As well as continuing to make music and develop his own sound, he is focusing on performing live shows and preparing for a September 30 gig at Club Capitol in Perth.

“As a DJ you always get the insult of, ‘he’s just pushing buttons he’s no musician’ so in my live show I wanted to conquer that,” he said.

“I’ve been playing piano for over 12 years and always wanted to find a way to implement it into my shows.

“I’m working on a show that will combine my DJing and piano skills.”

Middleton’s EP is available from online music stores and he hopes it is the start of a strong music career that takes him around the world.

“(I want) to play shows, meet new people, collaborate with artists and just share my music around the globe to make people happy,” he said.
