Visit to Singapore creates an orchid situation for Westminster enthusiast

KEITH Podger’s appreciation for orchids started more than 25 years ago during a visit to Singapore.

The Cymbidium Orchid Club of WA member recalls admiring the flowers while at the botanic gardens.

“I thought, ‘One day I’ll grow these myself’ and about five years later I bought my first orchid,” he said.

He and his wife Judith have grown orchids since, some of which will feature at the club’s annual Cymbidium Orchid Show in Darch next weekend.

It includes potting demonstrations, talks and orchids for sale, and Mr Podger said there would be “some fabulous colours” of flowers for people to enjoy.

Entry to the show costs $3 and it runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm at Ezi-Gro Orchids, 76 Evandale Road, Darch.
