STUDENTS are encouraged to give feedback on vocational education as part of a State Government survey.

Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton visited Wanneroo Secondary College last week to meet with principal Pauline White and students to talk about the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) program.

She is on the State Parliament’s education and health standing committee, which is looking at how to improve delivery of the program and seeking input via a public online survey.

Ms Winton said the school was still a leader in secondary education as it was when she was a student when it opened.

“Vocational education provides a solid pathway for our students to enter the workforce,” she said.

“We want to ensure that this program reaches its full potential and is properly regulated.

“As a teacher of 27 years, I know how important it is that we get on-the-ground feedback to ensure the best delivery of education resources to our students.”

Ms White said it was important to know what skills employers sought from graduates.

“I encourage students and parents to complete the survey so that the committee can have the clearest picture of issues and challenges faced by the industry and act to improve this program for our students and educators,” she said.

Years 10 to 12 VET students and their parents can provide responses at bit.ly/2tF77lR until August 7.
