CITY of Wanneroo has altered its plans to improve a Wanneroo intersection.

At the February 7 meeting, councillors unanimously supported the City’s recommendation to remove installation of a splitter island from its upgrade design at the Wanneroo Road and Villanova Street intersection.

It will proceed with the extension of the median island on Villanova.

The City’s report found the splitter would not significantly improve traffic flow or safety at the intersection.

It also noted that the State Government’s commitment to build an overpass at the Ocean Reef and Wanneroo roads intersection could require some work at the Villanova site.

Councillors had questioned the effect of the announcement in the briefing session.

At the meeting, Cr Frank Cvitan said he supported the City doing “minimal works” to improve the intersection because he believed it would be impacted by the overpass construction.

The recommendation passed unanimously and the amended design will be made available for public comment.
