TALENTED Wanneroo cricketer Michael Herbst has earned a place in the national under-16s squad after impressing at the School Sport Australia championships.
Herbst is one of just two WA representatives in the 14-player squad with Melville cricketer Ewan Nielson.
He took four wickets from four games at 18.25 and an economy rate of 2.52.
The team will make up the Cricket Australia XI in a challenge against older players for next season’s under-17 National Championships.
An international series for early 2018 is also on the cards.
National talent manager Greg Chappell said it was a difficult selection process.
“There was such a good spread of talent across all teams and plenty of competition for places,” he said.
“That said, we are really pleased with the final result of the selection process, and the quality of talent within this Australia under-16s squad.”
