Mandurah Greyhounds: West On Liam continues to progress after maiden win

BOOM short-courser West On Liam continued his sharp upward progression when he rolled to a fourth consecutive victory in the $39 Friday Buffet Grade 5 over 405m at Park Mandurah last Friday.

It was the improving youngster’s most impressive effort to date.

West On Liam took a few strides to push through to the lead but once he hit the front he kicked away to leave his rivals in the dust.

He surged across the finish line in a personal best time of 22.60, more than four lengths ahead of runner-up Howzat Ernie.

The talented red brindle from Chris Halse’s kennels has turned his career around since he was forced into a satisfactory trial earlier this year.

That was due to a disappointing fade out when racing at Mandurah on 24 January, where he let a commanding lead slide into a downfield finish.

The setback was the wake-up call West On Liam needed as he’s been undefeated since and he looks a greyhound to follow.

Later in the evening Fast Dancer led all the way to take out the Prime Trophies Grade 4 (405m).

The Bill Choules-trained chaser has been in handy form of late with three wins from his past six starts.
