Rugby union: Rockingham claims gutsy 1-point win over Swan Suburbs

THE Rockingham Rugby Union A Grade side is off the mark with a courageous one-point win against Swan Suburbs at Leschenault Reserve last Saturday.

The side was playing its third game of the season but was missing many regular first-team players.

Rockingham’s sharp lineouts and a powerful scrum wore down their opponents leading to a push over try with captain Jordan opening its account.

Winger Jamie Brady scored the side’s second try off a Dudley Cortland kick.

But Swans fought back in the second half, clinching the lead with a strong 15-minute patch to be with 21-17, with 10 minutes to go.

Rockingham dug deep and applied constant pressure with Ngahere Hainsworth scoring just before the final whistle.
